When Opportunity Knocks Open the Door

Working in the arts and culture community in a rural setting can be challenging. Yes we are considered rural in the grand scheme of arts and culture organizations. Limited funding, limited markets, smaller population base and therefore patrons and support. Larger cities may appeal, but due to economy of scale the cost of living can be shocking, besides you like the livability of the area.

So when there are funding opportunities that appear on the radar it’s advisable to take advantage of them. Just apply, plain and simple. I can help apprise you of the opportunities, but you have to act. Or share the information with someone who will benefit.

Through Ontario Culture Days I’ve learned of their Youth Arts Ambassador Program open to artists in all mediums between the ages of 19 and 30. Funding, networking opportunities, mentoring and a chance to showcase your work. The province is divided into 5 regions and each region (we’re obviously in Eastern Ontario) has a successful applicant.

Hi everyone! We’ve extended the deadline for our YAAP artist program. Deadline is now March 19th: https://on.culturedays.ca/en/yaap

Are you, or do you know any young performing artist who would like to attend the SPARC (Supporting Performing Arts in Rural & Remote Communities) Symposium 2018 in Cobalt, Ontario (May 24th to May 27th)? It’s a great way to network and learn from others in the field. Worried about the cost? Here’s a bursary to cover expenses. Deadline March 15th, 2018.

SPREAD THE WORD! Youth Bursaries to attend the 2018 SPARC Symposium are now available! We are thrilled that Canadian Heritage and the Ontario Trillium Foundation have offered their support to help make the event even more financially accessible for 14 engaged youth! Please encourage performing arts enthusiasts between ages 16-29 to apply before March 15th.
