Fall for Culture & the Arts

There are still a few matters from Brockville Culture Days to discuss, but those can wait for a bit as a busy fall schedule is upon us. It seems everyone is working overtime putting to rest the idea that, “there’s never anything to do”. If you’re like me there are often two or three things happening all at once. Let’s look at a few events that might have escaped your notice.

This Thursday the Brockville Museum is asking for your help. They are entering the Museum Dance Off competition, a fun, international contest that has become one of my guilty pleasures. At 2:00 pm they are taping on the patio on the east side of the museum. They would appreciate help filling the patio for the final scene of their entry. Not exactly a Nureyev, Astaire or Rogers? No worries, enthusiasm is the most important component. Apparently a lot of arm waving may be involved.

This could serve as a warm-up for the museum’s Tiki-tennial on November 4th at the Courthouse Lodge. This is the sesquicentennial recreation of Brockville’s Centennial Ball at the famed Tiki Lounge in, obviously, 1967. Doors open at 6:00 pm, buffet dinner, by the Brockberry Grill, is at 7:00 pm and the dance starts at 9:00 pm. Tickets for cocktail, dinner and dance are $75 and for dance only, are $15. Go to the Brockville Museum Facebook page for more details.

Those interested in the visual arts have two spectacular events coming up. Before the Rush 2017 takes place at The Ivy Restaurant & Coach House from Friday Sept. 27th to Sunday Sept. 29th and includes collections from some of the area’s finest artists, craftspeople and designers. For hours, directions and more details go to

The annual Brockville Artist’s Studio Show, is taking place November 3rd from 5 to 9, November 4th and 5th from 10 to 5 at the Brockville Memorial Civic Centre in Brockville, Ontario. Admission is free and there will be music and refreshments on Friday evening. Come and see the latest works from members of the Studio.

Finally, an event near and dear to my heart, the Leeds & Grenville Interval House Shine the Light Port Tasting & Silent Auction, at the Courthouse Lodge on Thursday November 16th from 6 pm to 9 pm. Tickets are $50 with all proceeds going to Interval House. I am leading the tasting and believe me, we will have some fun.

So mark your calendars. Talk again soon.
